My review of Spirit Bound

12/02/12 - Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy #5) by Richelle Mead - Released 18th May 2010
- Warning - May contain spoilers for those who have not read the previous books.

The 5th book in the Vampire Academy series! Amazing.

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5)
Salvation has its price.
The words stunned Adrian for a moment, but he kept going. "You're lying. What you're describing is impossible. There's no way to save a Strigoi. When they're gone, they're gone. They're dead. Undead. Forever."
After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri’s birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir’s—and to her best friend, Lissa Dragomir. It's graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives outside of the Academy’s cold iron gates to finally begin. But even with the intrigue and excitement of court life looming, Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri. He's out there, somewhere.

She failed to kill him when she had the chance, and now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and she knows in her heart that he is hunting her. And if Rose won't join him, he won't rest until he's silenced her...forever.
Sigh, Richelle Mead never dissappoints me. Ever. I don't think she will either. She is a brilliant author, definitely one of my favourites. Okay, enough of me rambling on about how amazing Richelle and let's get down to talking about Spirit Bound!

Rose has failed to kill Dimitri. Uh oh. Not good. He's tasted her blood and wants her dead. He will do anything to get her. That includes breaking into St. Vladimir's.

In this book we see a lot more of Adrian (I'm not complaining), I really like him and I was happy to see that he and Rose were getting back to normal; carying on their relationship, etc. We also see some, uh hem, passionate scenes between the two. Surely that's a sign that Rose is over Dimitri? OF COURSE NOT! The girl is hung up on him, and when she finally sees him again, you can see the longing inside of her. Do I think Rose is being unfair to Adrian? YES. Seriously, the guy deserves better than a lying girlfriend who has feelings for monsters.

<Possible Spoiler> Rose's heart is ripped apart when Lissa manages to change Dimitri back to Moroi, but then discovering that he doesn't want her any more.

“I've given up on you...Love fades. Mine has.”

That was the quote that broke her heart. Dimitri was giving Rose a chance to move on. We all knew that you can't stop loving someone in just a matter of weeks? I think we all know that he is lying. Nevertheless, it was sad. I could feel my heart shattering; the despair that was going through Rose's brain.

On top of ALL that, she then finds out that Dimitri is grateful to Lissa and not her? After Rose went all the way to Russia to find him, to do exactly what he asked her to do. After SHE was the one who came up with the idea of bringing him back. But NO he goes along and praises Lissa, says that he'll be ever in her dept. Grrr, that just made me angry.

The ending? Well, I can't say it ended on a happy note....but it was definitely shocking.

Favourite Quote:
“He has no right to threaten my boyfriends. I'm eighteen. An adult. I don't need his help. I can threaten my boyfriends myself.”
Hahaha! I love this quote! Rose really does get annoyed with Abe for saying that to Adrian! Poor boy.

Overall, a brilliant book....that I want to go out and buy now.

I rate this book:
5 Falling Books

  1. The first time I read the series I lost track of time and everything around me was a blur because I got the books in e-copies and I literally didn't stop until I finished this one. I still can't separate one book from the other but Spirit Bound was the end(at the time LS wasn't out yet) and it had a great impact on me!
About the first quote you mentioned from Dimitri... I don't think he was lying but perhaps you'll understand him better when you read Last Sacrifice(if you haven't already).
As for the part that Dimitri praises Lisa... no matter how much Rose went through to save him, no one can't deny that Lisa was the one that turned him back. It's not fair, I didn't like it either but that doesn't make it less true. :(
I see that you're a fan of Adrian, and I get why you dislike what Rose did but let's face it, no matter how awesome he is(and he is pretty awesome!!!) those two were never meant to be together. They are too different and for me, it never felt right.
I love Bloodlines because that's his chance to move on and to be happy!

Sorry for the long comment but I just can't help myself when I see another fan of the series. Great review! I can't wait to see what you think of Last Sacrifice.
