My review of Endure

Endure (Need #4) by Carrie Jones
Release Date: May 8, 2012
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon | The Book Depository

Endure (Need, #4)Zara is at the center of an impending apocalypse. True, she’s successfully rescued Nick from Valhalla, but it simply isn’t enough. Evil pixies are ravaging Bedford, and they need much more than one great warrior; they need an army.

Zara isn’t sure what her role is anymore. She’s not just fighting for her friends; she’s also a pixie queen. And to align her team of pixies with the humans she loves will be one of her greatest battles yet. Especially since she can’t even reconcile her growing feelings for her pixie king . . .

Endure is the fourth and final book in the Need series. Zara White is back one more time to fight evil blue pixies and save the world. Shocking twists and an unexpected romance turn, Endure is the conclusion that all fans have been waiting for.

After rescuing Nick from Valhalla, Zara is back to fight the evil pixies lurking around every corner of the city. She has to prepare her team of pixies and friends for a gruesome battle. Being a pixie queen isn't easy, Zara's had to make sacrifices and take risks. But will they pay off in this battle against evil monsters?

Taking a brake from all the fighting, there's something else Zara has to realise. Where does her heart belong? That's what all fans have been waiting for, right? Nick, the wolf, or Astley, the pixie king. Carrie Jones has written a cute and heart-breaking story line.

Zara is a confident and strong heroine. She has grown so much since we first met her in Need, when she was that strange girl mumbling phobias to her self. She is now strong enough to make her own decisions, stand up for herself and take on anything thrown her way.

I felt that in this book, we see a harsher, more closed-minded side of Nick. For half the book he was plain annoying. He couldn't simply accept the fact that his girlfriend became a pixie to save him. No, he has to act like she's a monster. What happened to 'unconditional love'? You can't love someone and then feel differently just because they aren't the right species. He had some good moments in the book, too. The very few glimpses of the kind and caring Nick inside.

Now on to....Astley! Wooo! Team Astley! The pixie king for the win. I loved the fact that we saw more of him in this book. He is a truly great character. I enjoyed reading every single page with his name on it. He stands beside Zara no matter how crazy her ideas are, he lets her make her own decisions and, most importantly, he loves her for who she is inside, not her species. *Growls at Nick*

Reading the Need series has been an entertaining and exciting roller-coaster. Even though I'm sad to see it end, I will definitely be checking out more of Carrie Jones' work. Want a crazy, action-packed pixie book? Pick up this series.

My review of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #1) by Michelle Hodkin
Release Date: March 1, 2012
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon | The Book Depository

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1)Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.

There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer was more than I could have hoped for. Creepy, mysterious and romantic, this book will sweep you off your feet and make you laugh out loud!

Mara Dyer wakes up in hospital with no memory of how she got there. Her friends were killed while she was left with minor bruises. How did this happen? No one knows. When Mara moves school and meets the alluring, Noah Shaw, she finds him irritating, annoying and a total jerk. But he knows something about Mara that she never knew about herself. And she needs to find out. Soon.

The book had me from page 1, I couldn't put it down! The characters were surprisingly funny with interesting personalities and juicy secrets. I wouldn't exactly say this book was a horror, but it was definitely creepy! From the cover, I thought it would be some weird paranormal romance with drowning involved; I was very wrong. It had nothing to do with drowning, more along the lines of a girl with unnatural abilities in a complicated situation.

Mara Dyer was a pleasure to read about. She was loyal, determined and caring. Her relationship with Noah had me rolling on the floor laughing. Those two are one entertaining couple! Noah Shaw, like any other boy in YA fiction, was hot with a cocky attitude. But as the book progressed we see more sides to him that were both good and bad.

Overall, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is a chilling and extremely enjoyable book that will have reader's on the edge of their seat. If your looking for something romantic, slightly creepy with small elements of comedy, then pick up this book! I can't wait to read the sequel!

My review of Through To You

Through To You by Emily Hemsworth
Release Date: October 2, 2012
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon | The Book Depository

Through To YouCamden Pike has been grief-stricken since his girlfriend, Viv, died. Viv was the last good thing in his life: helping him rebuild his identity after a career-ending football injury, picking up the pieces when his home life shattered, and healing his pain long after the meds wore off. And now, he’d give anything for one more glimpse of her. But when Cam makes a visit to the site of Viv’s deadly car accident, he sees some kind of apparition. And it isn’t Viv.

The apparition’s name is Nina, and she’s not a ghost. She’s a girl from a parallel world, and in this world, Viv is still alive. Cam can’t believe his wildest dreams have come true. All he can focus on is getting his girlfriend back, no matter the cost. But things are different in this other world: Viv and Cam have both made very different choices, things between them have changed in unexpected ways, and Viv isn’t the same girl he remembers. Nina is keeping some dangerous secrets, too, and the window between the worlds is shrinking every day.

As Cam comes to terms with who this Viv has become and the part Nina played in his parallel story, he’s forced to choose—stay with Viv or let her go—before the window closes between them once and for all.

Through To You is a sci-fi/contemporary debut novel. Romance, mystery and an intriguing plot, it grabs your attention from the very first page and keeps you hooked until the very end.

This book is about a boy, named Camden Pike, who is in pieces ever since his girlfriend, Viv, died. He's still trying to get over his career-ending football injury, Camden feels like he's on his own. His mother is always working, and even though Mike, his friend, is trying to cheer him up; no one can fill the ache in his chest. But when Cam visits the spot where Viv died, he sees a ghost. And it isn't Viv. Her name is Nina and she's from a parallel world where Viv is still alive. But things aren't the same in the other world and Viv isn't the same girl he was prepared to die for. Nina is also hiding dangerous secrets, but time is running out because the window between the two worlds is getting smaller everyday. Cam needs to make a choice: Stay with Viv, or let her go.

As soon as I read the blurb I knew I'd enjoy it. Who wouldn't want to dive into a parallel world? It just sounded so cool. I loved reading about Camden's life and how he had to deal with the loss of his girlfriend. Emily Hemsworth delivers a book that is both emotional and very addictive.

Camden was a very strong and determined character with a big heart. Viv was his only friend, without her he felt empty. And to go to another world to find her? It shows you how much he would risk for her. I also enjoyed Nina, she plays a big part in the story and I liked her caring and  calm nature. I thought she was a very engaging character with an interesting background, I would have liked to see more of her.

Mysterious, romantic and even slightly creepy, I would recommend this book to anyone who's just looking for something different and unique. Pick Through To You up as soon as possible!

My review of Before I Wake

Before I Wake (Soul Screamers #6) by Rachel Vincent
Release Date: July 6, 2012 (UK), June 26, 2012 (US)
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon | The Book Depository

Before I Wake (Soul Screamers, #6)I died on a Thursday—killed by a monster intent on stealing my soul.
The good news? He didn’t get it.
The bad news? Turns out not even death will get you out of high school…

Covering up her own murder was one thing, but faking life is much
harder than Kaylee Cavanaugh expected. After weeks spent
“recovering,” she’s back in school, fighting to stay visible to the human world, struggling to fit in with her friends and planning time alone with her new reaper boyfriend.

But to earn her keep in the human world, Kaylee must reclaim
stolen souls, and when her first assignment brings her face-to-face with an old foe, she knows the game has changed. Her immortal status won’t keep her safe. And this time Kaylee isn’t just gambling with her own life…

- May contain spoilers for people who haven't started the series -

Before I Wake is the sixth book in the popular Soul Screamers series. Full of action, mysteries and irresistible romance, if you loved the previous books you will definitely be satisfied with this one!

After being killed, Kaylee Cavanaugh is trying to live life like nothing's happened. But lots of things have happened since the day she was killed. After being recruited to find souls, Kaylee's time alone with her Reaper boyfriend has become increasing short. With all her friends and family endangered, how will Kaylee protect them?

Kaylee, Tod, Nash, Sabine and Emma, are all back with a new and exciting paranormal mystery to solve. If you thought the previous books had good plots, well, Before I Wake tops them all. All I can say is, if your looking for a set of books that will keep you on the edge of your seat, pick up this series as soon as possible.

Tod is the best undead guy ever. Thought he was hot in the other books? He's on fire in this one! We get to see a lot more of him in this book (YAY) and, occasionally, see him pour his heart out. Tod and Kaylee made me laugh, made me cry and they made me smile. When times got tough, Tod was there to make it all better. The guy's just too perfect for his own good.

I liked the jealousy between the characters as well. Sabine and Nash, damn, nothing ever goes right for them, does it? Even though Kaylee has made her choice, I can't help but feel sorry for Nash. He tries very hard, in this book, to get over the pain and betrayal, and I really admire him for that.

I must stress how much I love Rachel Vincent's writing style. Enganging, captivating, fun, unique and extremely addictive; I always wish that her books went on forever and ever and ever.

Read her books as soon as possible. That's all I can say.

My review of Half-Blood

Half-Blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: September 20, 2011
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon | The Book Depository

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1)The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden.

And that would kind of suck.

Half-Blood is the first book in the popular Covenant series. Fun, witty and full of action, a must read!

Are you looking for a book that will brighten up your day? A book that will keep you hooked until the end? A book that is just so damn hot it could set a forest on fire? Here it is, my fellow readers!

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals. Children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods have godlike powers, while children of Hematoi and mortals, Half-bloods, only have two options: become a Sentinel who hunt and kill daimons or become a servant in the house of a pure.

Alex, after three years of missing training at the Covenant, would rather risk her life before she would ever be seen scrubbing toilets. But Alex has got a problem with one of the rules: Relationships between pures and half-bloods are forbidden. It doesn't help when your new trainer is the untouchable pure blood, Aiden. Alex has to keep her head straight and focus on her goal: become a Sentinel and get revenge on those who killed her mother.

Sounds amazing, right? That's because it is! Half-Blood is packed full of heart-stopping action and a romance that will keep readers entertained and hooked until the very end.

The characters were strong, feisty and unbearably hot. Alex is one of those heroines that you really admire. She is a devoted and determined girl who does not like to be missing the action. Throughout the book I was like: WOOO! YOU GO GIRL!

Aiden and Seth. Two hot guys, two very different personalities. Both of their relationships with Alex are complicated. Alex has a crush on Aiden, but he is a Pure so that is a big no-no. Then Seth comes along with his magical powers and good looks and a bucket load of secrets. There wasn't really a love triangle in Half-Blood, but I can sense one coming up in the next books!

Jennifer really does know what readers want. If your looking for action, a forbidden romance and many creepy monsters, pick up Half-Blood as soon as possible. I promise you won't regret it!

Sweet Evil Character Interview

Hey!

Some of you may know about my fan site for the Sweet Evil trilogy:

The Sweet Trilogy

There's some really awesome stuff going on there like giveaways, an interview with Wendy, etc. Here is a character interview which appeared on the site:

Kaidan, what were your first thoughts when saw Anna?
It went something like this:
She's cute.
Aw, hell, she's Neph.
What is she doing here? What does she want? Why haven't I seen her before? WHO IS SHE?

Anna, sum Kaidan up in 5 words.
Confusing. Maddening. Stubborn. Guarded. Irresistible.

Kaidan, do you prefer Anna's good or bad side?
*laughs*  Her "bad" side is hardly noteworthy, but incredibly sexy. Although there's something hot about her sweetness. I should shut-up now.

Anna, what is the nicest thing Kaidan has done for you?
Hm, gosh. I'm trying to think of what I can say without giving any spoilers. He's not the kind of guy who goes out of his way to do "nice" things. He sort of does nice things accidentally, lol. Like, spontaneous instinct or something. And then he seems confused and surprised by himself, which is always amusing. Could I be anymore vague?  :-P

Kaidan, will you ever stop 'working' for this pretty girl who wants a committed relationship?
Erm...we'd better not go there, luv.

Anna,
are there any other boys in the picture? *Ahem* Kope?
I adore Kope, but just as a friend. Even though he sort of flusters me sometimes with that intense way he looks at me.

Kaidan, how would you feel if Anna took an interest in another boy?
*frowns* She's free to do whatever she wants, of course. Not my business. *glares*

Anna and Kaidan, 1....2....3...how do you feel about each other?
*Anna smiles at Kai*
*Kai looks away*
*both shrug*

My review of The Kiss Off

The Kiss Off by Sarah Billington
Release Date: June, 2012
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon

The Kiss OffWhen sixteen year old Poppy Douglas writes a song about her ex-boyfriend Cam and ex-friend Nikki, she has no idea that her heartbreak is about to go global.

A local band picks up her song from Youtube and soon she’s along for the ride with her own fanbase as they blow up on the local club scene and hit the international charts. Though it turns out leaving Cam behind isn’t as easy as she had hoped.

Tangled in a web of unfinished homework, ill-considered sexting and a new lead-singer boyfriend, Poppy has a choice to make between the ex that inspired it all and the rock God whose poster lines the inside of half the lockers at school. But as she struggles to keep her emotional dirty laundry private, she learns that the truth can be hard to find when your life is in the headlines.

The Kiss Off is an entertaining book that will have readers laughing out loud! It's fun and told in a unique way. A short read that I would recommend to teenagers.

Poppy Douglas is a young girl with big dreams. Uploading videos of her own songs has never got her very far until she releases 'The Kiss Off'. Inspired by the breakup with her cheating boyfriend, the video has gathered a large crowd. And soon she's getting recognised everywhere. When she meets Ty, her world spirals out of control. The word 'privacy' does not exist any more. Can she handle all the pressure of being a rock star's girlfriend and lead a normal life?

I found The Kiss Off a very easy book to get into. I liked the characters, I thought the plot was interesting, but I would have liked to see more description. I didn't like the fact that the main characters weren't described. What does Poppy look like? What does Ty look like? It was very hard to picture the scenes in my head.

Poppy and Ty's relationship was, at first, a pleasure to read about. But then all the sexting, fame and cheating suspicions came and complicated it all. Their relationship was definitely not normal and I loved how they seemed to get through any obstacle put in their way.

If your looking for a short read with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, then I would definitely recommend this to you. The book does lack description and character build-up but overall the book is very interesting.

NOTE: The Kiss Off deals with some situations that might make readers uncomfortable.
