Waiting on Wednesday

Hey,

I've seen loads of bloggers posting something called 'Waiting on Wednesday', so, I figured I should do one of these W.O.W posts! :D

Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Onyx (Lux, #2)
Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarre connection. I’ve sworn him off even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But against all common sense, I’m falling for him. Hard.

Our relationship issues aren’t out biggest problem…

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And when a new boy shows up a school with a secret of his own, things get complicated fast. I need to choose between my own instincts and Daemon’s.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. Daemon’s never going to stop searching until gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies.

I am OBSESSED with the Lux series right now. I am DESPERATE to read this. It was originally slated for March, but they pushed it back to May, then July and now AUGUST! AUGUST! *CRIES* I need Daemon!

-Until next Wednesday-

My review of Obsidian

Obsidian (Lux #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: December 6th, 2011
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon The Book Depository

One of my most favourite reads. EVER.

Obsidian (Lux, #1)
Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Wow. This book was is so frickin' awesome. Extremely hard to put down! Obsidian is a fun and action-packed book. It's full of wonderfully charming characters that you will love and care for. As for the cover? Who wouldn't drool over that?

You know what made me so crazy about reading this book in the first place? It was the blurb. More specifically, ".....I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up. And then he opened his mouth." I'd heard many great things about Jennifer L. Armentrout and I just knew Obsidian would be good! Read it!

I loved the characters! They were fun! They were exciting! Katy, I found that I could really relate to her, like REALLY relate to her. She is a book blogger! A girl who is totally obsessed over books, like me! Katy is courageous and brave. She's always willing to risk her life for others. I don't think she realises how beautiful she really is, like many girls I know! But there's one thing I absolutely hate about her. She lives next door to a hottie. Damn, many girls would loose an arm and a leg to live where she does! Daemon Black. The untouchable boy with amazing green eyes and a tanned chest. *Drooool* Okay, so maybe Daemon isn't the nicest of guys, but he does try. He's not very good with words, his eyes and actions give his emotions away. When you read Obsidian, please read it slowly and savour every single scene with Daemon in it! Onyx, the sequel, isn't going to be out for another few months (August 2012, BOOOO).

Obsidian will leave you breathless and pratically BEGGING for more. The action and steamy romance will hook you in like no other. As pages turn and days past, you will slowly see friendships blossom and relationships begin. You see Katy slowly get over her father's death, eventhough he died 3 years earlier she still feels the loss and emptiness. The fact that her mother works most hours a day does not make those feelings dissappear. I really felt for Katy, she's had a tough life and I don't think she deserved to be treated like the plague when she moved!

Having the whole paranormal twist made it so much more interesting. I don't want to give away toooo much information! But let's just say that Daemon is one fit alien and damn, he lights up my world. <3 Cheesy? Yes, I know.

Overall, Obsidian is a brilliant book and a great start to the Lux series. It has an ending that will have you wondering what will happen next, it will also leave you in a state of desperation. I can not wait until Onyx is released. There has been so many teasers! It's so....teasing! I NEED ONYX! And so will all of you when you get this book! Don't borrow this from the library. You need to buy it, I promise you won't regret it. This book is nothing like Twilight, in case your worried. If you borrow this from the library you will not want to give it back.

UK Titles That People Should Read

Hey,

I wanted to share with you some awesome UK titles that people around the world should really pay more attention to. Personally, I don't think that people realise how great UK authors are! COME ON! J.K ROWLING WAS BORN HERE?! Yes, I know, US titles have lovely covers and the plot is brilliant, etc, but you should REALLY give UK titles a go.

Hollow Pike by James Dawson

Something wicked this way comes... She thought she'd be safe in the country, but you can't escape your own nightmares, and Lis London dreams repeatedly that someone is trying to kill her. Lis thinks she's being paranoid - after all who would want to murder her? She doesn't believe in the local legends of witchcraft. She doesn't believe that anything bad will really happen to her. You never do, do you? Not until you're alone in the woods, after dark - and a twig snaps... Hollow Pike - where witchcraft never sleeps.

Look at the cover! I've got this one reserved at the library and CAN NOT WAIT to pick it up! EEEEK! I've read some pretty good reviews on Hollow Pike, which is extremely promising! It was released on the 2nd of February! So, go to your bookshop and buy it!

A Witch in Winter (Winter Trioligy #1) by Ruth Warburton

Anna Winterson doesn't know she's a witch and would probably mock you for believing in magic, but after moving to the small town of Winter with her father, she learns more than she ever wanted to about power. When Anna meets Seth, she is smitten, but when she enchants him to love her, she unwittingly amplifies a deadly conflict between two witch clans and splits her own heart in two. She wants to love Seth, to let him love her – but if it is her magic that's controlling his passion, then she is as monstrous as the witch clan who are trying to use her amazing powers for their own gain.
Another witch story! I've read and loved this! This is Ruth's debut novel and it is fun and exciting! Oh, and a REALLY hot boy! ;) Go read it! You can check out my review of A Witch in Winter by clicking REVIEWS at the top of the page.

Before I Die by Jenny Downham

Tessa has just months to live. Fighting back against hospital visits, endless tests, drugs with excruciating side-effects, Tessa compiles a list. It’s her To Do Before I Die list. And number one is Sex. Released from the constraints of ‘normal’ life, Tessa tastes new experiences to make her feel alive while her failing body struggles to keep up. Tessa’s feelings, her relationships with her father and brother, her estranged mother, her best friend, and her new boyfriend, all are painfully crystallised in the precious weeks before Tessa’s time finally runs out.

Wow. This is truly an amazing book. This book was published in 2007 so I'm sure it's in LOTS of shops. This book made me cry and laugh and smile. It's heart-breaking, Tessa's situation is terrifying and I didn't know what to expect when I first opened it up. This was my first I'm-going-to-die book and yeah, it was pretty awesome. I didn't know Jenny Downham was a UK author until yesterday! This book is being adapted into a film called Now is Good, staring Dakota Fanning as Tessa! I was surprised, I thought the film producers were only going to use UK actors, but I'm sure Dakota will do a good job. Now is Good is slated for May 2012, make sure you watch it!

These are only a few of the awesome UK titles you should read. Try them out! I promise you won't regret it.

Thanks for checking these out,
Sam :)

Catch Up

Hey,

I have a lot to tell you all about! I'm sorry I haven't posted anything overly interesting, I've been having problems with posting on Blogger. For now, I am here! And I have a lot of news to tell you all about: Winners, books, giveaways, etc.

Winner of my 300 Twitter Follower Giveaway

Books
I've got a few amazing books to tell you about! I received Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout from the amazing Jena at Shortie Says! I love it! Thank you so much!

Obsidian (Lux, #1)
Damn, Daemon is so hot. The girl? Eh. She looks okay. Many of my friends have said that she doesn't deserve to stand next to such a god. ;)

There are new covers for the Lux series! Have you seen them?
Obsidian (Lux, #1)
I personally think that Daemon looks so much better on the other cover!

Onyx (Lux, #2)
Hmmmm, I love the colours but....the girl is just.....I don't know...maybe...not as pretty asI would have hoped.

You know what the most fustrating thing is? In the book Obsidian, it says that Onyx is to be released in March, but I heard that it got delayed to May, and I just check Jennifer's website and it turns out that Onyx isn't releasing until AUGUST! AUGUST! I SHALL DIE! I NEED DAEMON! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITHOUT HIM FOR 5 MONTHS?! D:

I'm sure you all feel the same! Anyway, watch out for my review! :D Guess what I bought?

Twenty Boy Summer
"Don’t worry, Anna. I’ll tell her, okay? Just let me think about the best way to do it."
"Okay."
"Promise me? Promise you won’t say anything?"
"Don’t worry.” I laughed. “It’s our secret, right?"

According to Anna’s best friend, Frankie, twenty days in Zanzibar Bay is the perfect opportunity to have a summer fling, and if they meet one boy every day, there’s a pretty good chance Anna will find her first summer romance. Anna lightheartedly agrees to the game, but there’s something she hasn’t told Frankie–she’s already had her romance, and it was with Frankie’s older brother, Matt, just before his tragic death one year ago.

TWENTY BOY SUMMER explores what it truly means to love someone, what it means to grieve, and ultimately, how to make the most of every beautiful moment life has to offer.

It sounds AMAZING! And guess what? It's AMAZING! I was reading it last night and said to myself: Okay, Sam. Only read half of this book and read the other half later. Take it slooow. Ergh, you know what happened? I ended up reading 3 quarters of it! Sniffle, I will finish it tonight! I have been crying since page 10, I couldn't stop.

Thanks so much for reading this long and partially interesting post!

My review of If I Die

24/02/12 - If I Die (Soul Screamers #5) by Rachel Vincent - Released 3rd February 2012
-Warning- Don't read this unless you've read the previous books

Pure awesomeness.

If I Die (Soul Screamers, #5)
No one wants to be this teacher's pet…

The entire school’s talking about the gorgeous new math teacher, Mr Beck. That is, everyone except Kaylee Cavanaugh. After all, Kaylee’s no ordinary high-school junior. She’s a banshee — she screams when someone dies.

But the next scream might be for Kaylee.

Yeah — it’s a shock to her, too. So to distract herself, Kaylee’s going to save every girl in school. Because that hot new teacher is really an incubus who feeds on the desire of unsuspecting students. The only girls immune to his lure are Kaylee and Sabine — her boyfriend’s needy ex-girlfriend. Now the unlikely allies have to get rid of Mr Beck…before he discovers they aren’t quite human, either.

But Kaylee’s borrowed lifeline is nearing its end. And those who care about her will do anything to save her life. Anything.

If I Die was an extremely fun and entertaining read. I couldn't put it down no matter how hard I tried. Rachel Vincent will drag you into the world of paranormal creatures.

I must say, my opinion of the characters have changed, A LOT. I used to love Nash, but little things made me pull away, dislike him. And who was there to make everything better? TOD! Sigh, I want him. He is kind. He is caring. He is gorgeous. He is supportive. He is what I, and all girls out there, want. HEAR THAT BOYS?! You wanna girl? Read this series. Learn what you should and should NEVER EVER do! Just to help, I've made a short list!

NEVER:
- Have a best friend who is a girl. Who is your ex. Who you shared a passionate relationship with. Who wants to get back with you. Who is hot. You hear? Never.
- Don't inhale Demon-breath, in other words please don't do anything you'd regret later on.

Sabine, as always, was a real pain. I really couldn't bring myself to like her. She had her occasional moments of brilliance, I'll give her that, but I still didn't like her. Her personality didn't really appeal to me. Kaylee, on the other hand, is an enjoyable main character who I loved to read about.

There was scenes that had me swooning and smiling like never before! There was a special conversation in particular.....It's spoilery so I made the text white, highlight:
“Only two years dead, and it was getting harder for me to feel…anything. I was starting to slip into the darkness. The numbness. And the worst part is that it wasn’t even scary. I was losing myself, and I didn’t even care. Then I met you, and at first I didn’t understand what had happened. What had changed. All I knew was that I wanted to be near you. Then you helped me with Addison, even though it nearly got you killed—I nearly got you killed—and I started to understand how special you are. But by then, you were getting serious with Nash. With my brother—one of few people in the whole world I still gave a damn about. So I tried to stay away. I tried so hard.” His voice cracked on the last word, and my heart cracked with it. Tears stood in my eyes, but I was afraid to let them fall. I was afraid to even breathe for fear of missing a single word. "But you kept pulling me back. You’re the brightest thing I’ve ever seen, Kaylee. You’re this beautiful ball of fire spitting sparks out at the world, burning fiercely, holding back the dark by sheer will. And I always knew that if I reached out—if I tried to touch you—I’d get burned. Because you’re not mine. I’m not supposed to feel the fire. I’m not supposed to want it. But I do. I want you, Kaylee, like I’ve never wanted anything. Ever. I want the fire. I want the heat, and the light, and I want the burn.” You see what I mean? :)

The cover that is shown above is the UK cover, so don't get confused. It's pretty isn't it? I love all the UK covers, I think they look better than the US ones. Hmmm, what do you think?

Anyway, Rachel Vincent has done an amazing job creating a believable and exciting world that will have you wishing it were real. I can't wait to read Before I wake, I believe it's going to BRILLIANT!

I rate this book:
5 Falling Books!
