15 Years of Harry Potter!

Guess what happened 15 years ago? Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published! Fifteen years! A long time, huh? Here is a video that Bloomsbury Publishing has put together:

Did you know that Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was rejected by many publishers and with an initial hardback print run of 500 copies? Well, it has now sold over 90 million copies worldwide. Isn't that amazing?!

To celebrate Harry Potter's 15th anniversary, Bloomsbury is inviting fans to write a letter of no more than 50 words explaining why they love HARRY POTTER. They are looking for the most creative, clever and entertaining reasons and, while the word limit is set to a strict 50 words, entrants are encouraged to draw, doodle and make their letters as elaborate as possible!

Harry Potter fans can only enter by visiting a local bookshop or library and posting their letter in the specially designed postboxes. Over 1800 bookshops and libraries have already signed up to take part.

The competition will run from Tuesday 26th June to Tuesday 31st July 2012 after which we will name the UK and Ireland’s biggest Harry Potter fan. The winner and runners up will be announced on Saturday 1st September.

Prize: The winner will receive a family holiday to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a letter-bound, signed, dedicated and numbered 15th Anniversary Edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. 14 runners up will also receive a letter-bound, signed, dedicated and numbered 15th Anniversary Edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Details of how to enter and a list of participating bookshops and libraries can be found on the website: www.bloomsbury.com/harrypottercompetition

Go enter now! It sounds amazing! Click the link above if you have any questions. Come on, guys! I'm talking about J.K Rowling here! You can win a signed and dedicated book if you win. This is a great oppotunity to show that you are the ultimate Harry Potter Fan.

  5. I've got to admit I actually read a review in the newspaper on this book and immediately went on line to order it from Amazon. My youngest was a 4th grader and an indifferent reader. I originally ordered it for her but ended up reading first. Her school did a play and she was Ms McGonagall. Needless to say she caught the fever and hasn't stopped reading since. She graduates with honors from graduate school this winter. So, Yeah! for Harry!
