My review of Clockwork Prince

20/12/11 - Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare - Released 6th of December 2011

Cassandra Clare has delivered.

In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Clockwork Prince is one of those sequels that you just can't get out of your head. It's one of those books that you will start to read and won't put down until you've read the final word. Cassandra Clare has gifted us with this wonderful masterpiece that will leave you wanting more.

In this book their is a more daring plot, some new characters, exciting new scenes and more of that too-die-for romance. Cassandra makes it extremely hard to pick between Will and Jem. Two wonderful boys with such different personalities. But, it's all up to Tessa. Who will steal her heart? But with new information....how can choose one boy without breaking the other?

I can't help but stress how much I love the romance in this book. It's just amazingly thought through; the complications, the characters emotions, etc. I think Team Will fans will enjoy the roller-coaster of emotions that this book provides. And as for Team Jem fans...well, you'll just have to wait and see.

I found Clockwork Prince's plot line very entertaining and action-packed. You can expect the final instalment to be brilliant. Amazing. Wonderful. Clockwork Princess will be released in September 2013....so , what ever you do, please take your time with this book so you don't have to agonize for the next year and a half!

My review of Ballad

19/12/11 - Ballad by Maggie Stiefvater - Released 1st October 2009

The sequel to Lament, full of new characters!

Music prodigy James Morgan and his best friend, Deirdre, join a private conservatory for musicians. James' musical talent attracts Nuala, a soul-snatching faerie muse who fosters and feeds on the creative energies of exceptional humans until they die. Composing beautiful music together unexpectedly leads to mutual admiration and love. Haunted by fiery visions of death, James realises that Deirdre and Nuala are being hunted by the Fey and plunges into a soul-scorching battle with the Queen of the Fey to save their lives.

This book was disappointing. Unlike the first book, Ballad lacked character and action.

The characters changed in a way I disliked. James was once a sweet boy but changed when he met Nuala, a fey. We saw less of Luke, which also dragged my spirits down a bit, because he was one of my favourite characters in Lament. And to not know what had happened to him was just very confusing.

I do wish that Maggie had answers some of the buzzing questions I had in my head. Lots of threads were left loose and some parts of the story were hard to follow.

Overall, Ballad wasn't the sequel I'd been hoping for. There has been news there will be a third book. Which is great. I will give it a go because I want to see if Maggie can give us an ending that we deserve!

My review of Die for me

19/12/11 - Die For Me (Revenants #1) by Amy Plum - Released 10th May 2011

A romantic and action-packed book.

Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

I really enjoyed this wonderful book! Amy Plum has done a brilliant job at taking on the task at writing an incredible book about the undead.

Revenants; The undead. People who have died and come back to life. They look like you and me, they also age like you and me. They don't need to sleep but have a stage called 'dormant' during the month, where Revenants rest their bodies. Don't think just because their dead they can't die, they can. Everytime they die their life restarts to the age that they died at. Only some are created into Revenants when they die. Well the rest of the worlds deaths? They stay dead.

Kate's life has always been blissfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.

Her and her sister, Georgia, became orphans. They left their old lives behing and moved to Paris to live with their grandparents. Kate knew that her heart and life would never be the same again. Until the met Vincent.

This book made me laugh and made me cry. It was cute and had me smiling all the way through. I enjoyed Kate's character, she had a lovable feel and I could easily relate to her. Vincent, well, what girl can resist such charms? Definitely not me!

My review of Crossed

17/12/11 - Crossed by Ally Condie - Released 15th of November 2011

Everything I wished and hoped for from the sequel of the best selling book, Matched.

I love how in this book we got to dive into Ky's mind and have half of the chapters, in the book, told by him. I love him even more now because of all the things I've learnt about him and how his mind works. His love for Cassia made me smile all the way through.

I think Cassia has grown as a person. She's much stronger than she was in 'Matched' and I will enjoy seeing her grow even more in the last book. I admire her courage and love for Ky.

Like I said, this book was what more than I could have wished for. I can't put into words how excited I am for the next book!

An Interview with Jodi Meadows!

:] Isn't it a great day? Of course it is! The amazing author of Incarnate has agreed to have an interview!

Isn't it beautiful? :') I love it and I'm sure you will toooo! Don't forget it's releasing on the 31st of January 2012! So here is the interview:

Me: How did you get the idea for Incarnate?
Jodi: I made a note about the basic premise for INCARNATE three years before I ever started writing the book. Whatever the original spark was -- it's gone now. But I remember being very intrigued by the idea of perpetual reincarnation and how a society like that might grow. That by itself is interesting, but even more interesting would be adding someone new. 

From there, I put the note away for years, thinking of it only occasionally while I worked on other projects. I found it again when I was feeling braver and ready for the challenge such a world would inevitably present. 

Me: How long did it take you to write Incarnate?

Jodi: Three years for the idea to finish taking over my brain. One month of intense plotting, worldbuilding, and note-taking. Two months of frantic first drafting. One month of insane revisions. Then I got an agent and editor and added on eighteen more months of off and on revisions and editing.

Me: Are any of the characters based on real life people?

Jodi: No, though I do sometimes name characters after friends.

Me: When did you know you wanted to be an author?

Jodi: When I was in seventh grade. It was the first time I understood that writing books was a thing some people did as a job. 

Me: When you were told Incarnate was going to be published how did you feel?

Jodi: Shocked. It had been my dream for so long, and while I believed it would happen one day, the day my agent called to inform me of offers was a huge surprise. I kept waiting for her to tell me it was a joke. (I'm still kind of waiting. :)

Me: Are you working on a other projects?

Jodi: Absolutely. I have a couple other projects I'm tinkering with when I'm not working on INCARNATE novels, but I can't tell you about them. My agent would kill me in my sleep. :)

Me: Any clues to what the second book might be titled?
Jodi: It starts with a vowel.

Me: What advice would you give young people who want to be an author/writer?

Jodi: Read all the books. And write. Do both of those things a lot, and then send some of your writing into the world. Be prepared for rejection; it's okay, because it happens to everyone. But one day, I hope you get a very surprising phone call.

An Interview with Abbi Glines!

Me: Where did the idea for Existence come from?

Abbi: I wanted to try my hand at writing a paranormal romance. But nothing interested me until I was reading through an old manuscript I'd written a few years ago and done nothing with. One of the characters in the book was Death. He wasn't a main character but I liked him more than the main characters (which may be why I never tried to do anything with that book). I then sat down and gave Death a storyline. 

Me: Are any of the characters in The Vincent Boys based on real life people?

Abbi: No. The field parties are very real in the south. I went to several back in the day. The main characters all came out of my head. The only character in the book I patterned after someone was Grana. Ashton's Grana was inspired by my mother. 

Me: What is your favourite book that you have written?

Abbi: The Vincent Boys. I didn't give myself limitations with that one. But Breathe was my first "baby" so it will always hold a special place in my heart. 

Me: Do you have any other projects that your working on?

Abbi: Yes, I am getting Because of Low ready for the editor. It will be released February 7, 2012. It's another YA contemp. The second book in the Existence trilogy will be my next project. I've already gotten the outline for it down. 

Me: Are any of your books in print?

Abbi: Breathe is in print. Existence will be in print this February. The Vincent Boys will hopefully be in print sometime in January. 

Me: When did you know you wanted to be an author?

Abbi: At the age of eight. I began writing stories in notebooks. My mother would buy me notebooks and I would fill them up. 

Me: What advice would you give to young people who want to be a writer/author?

Abbi: Write daily. Even if you aren't in the mood and it sucks. Write. It's like a muscle. It grows with each use. Also, never give up. If you love your story, someone else will too.

An Interview with Tara Fuller!

Guess what? I got the amazing Tara Fuller, author of the upcoming book 'Perigee Moon', to have an interview! :D

Me: Where did the idea for Perigee Moon come from?
Tara: The idea for Perigee Moon was one of those ideas that just kind of hit me one day. I had known for a while that I wanted to write something that involved time travel. And then I had the idea one morning at breakfast...why not do a time travel book about witches and the Salem Witch Trials? After that I did tons of research and Rowan and Alex's story was born!
Me: So, when did you know you wanted to be an author?
Tara: I have known I wanted to be an author since I was a kid. I started writing poetry in elementary school. By high school I knew writing was something I had to do.
Me: Are you planning on a sequel to Perigee Moon?
Tara: As of right now I don't have a sequel planned for Perigee Moon. It has always been a stand alone story to me.
Me: Have you got any other projects that your working on?
Tara: Yes! I actually have another paranormal YA book, INBETWEEN, coming out in Fall of 2012 from Entangled Publishing. It is a book about a grim reaper that falls in love with a human girl whose soul he is sent to reap. It will be the first in a three part series.
Me: That sounds exciting! What advice would you give to young people who want to be a writer/author?
Tara: I have 3 big pieces of advice to aspiring writers.
1.) Read. Read everything you can get your hands on. Reading is the best tool you have when it comes to developing your voice.
2.) Write everyday. Make a goal and stick to it. Like they say, practice makes perfect.
3.) Don't give up. In this journey I have been dealt a lot of rejection and had to develop a thick skin. If you get a "no", don't give up. Just look at it as being one step closer to a "yes".

Do not fear! There isn't much of a wait left until Perigee Moon comes out!!!!!!
