My review of Slumber

26/01/12 - Slumber (The Fade #1) by Samantha Young - Released 17th May 2011

Slumber (The Fade, #1)Addictive.

A sleeping beauty may be the damsel in distress, but her White Knight? Why her rather un-knightish best friend of course. And the White Knight’s White Knight? Well… none other than her reluctant mortal enemy…

When Haydyn falls victim to the mysterious Sleeping Disease, the world of Phaedra is thrown into Chaos.
Rogan, Haydyn’s best friend and handmaiden, is the only one who can save her. Together, with the Royal Guard and their young Captain, Wolfe Stovia, Rogan must set off across the provinces to find the Somna Plant that will wake Haydyn from her dying sleep.

Beset on all sides by the chaos, Rogan tumbles into a dark world of kidnapping, prejudice, betrayal and love… a journey that will change her forever, and a journey that will change their world forever, if she does not retrieve the cure.

After I saw this on amazon for free, I couldn't resist trying out another Samantha Young book! I read Smokeless Fire a few weeks ago and found it entertaining, so I was hoping for the same reaction while reading Slumber. To my surprise, I ended up liking it more than I expected!

Characters
Rogan; an interesting young girl, she knows how to handle herself in alarming situations. She is a fighter, yet vulnerable at times. She wasn't boring, like I thought she would be, instead she was exciting, full of energy and spirit!

Wolfe; Swoon-worthy boy here! There's so much I want to say about this boy!!!!! He was delightful. Moody at times but always has a good reason to be. He does take his job as a protector very seriously, and he can't help but doing his job when he does not need to. He wants to protect everyone, keep everyone, except himself, out of harms way. He is very passionate and can be very kind, but he has some secrets of his own. I was eager to read more about him as soon as he and Rogan set off on their quest.

I don't have much to say about the rest, okay, that's a lie. I have PLENTY to say about the awesome characters that were introduced in this book. I found them all quite intriguing, they all had a story to tell. L, for instance, was a strong and confident young woman. She helped Rogan with her quest when she did not need to. Very generous.

Slumber, wasn't a book that I thought I would read. It was the cover that interested me in the first place, but of course having seen that Samantha Young wrote it was a bonus. I would love to have a real copy of the book to see what the cover is like for real. I must say, all books by Samantha, have beautiful covers! I absolutely love them!

I am now seriously addicted to Samantha Young's books. They are all so easily to get lost in and so easy to enjoy! Samantha also has a very unique writing style, that I really do love. I recommend this to all YA paranormal lovers.

I rate this book:
