Released Date: October 4, 2011
The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. The night before eighteen-year-old Eve’s graduation from her all-girls school she discovers what really happens to new graduates, and the horrifying fate that awaits her.
Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust...and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

Our main character, Eve, grew into a braver person through out the book. She started off as a weak and defenceless young girl but as she got to know the outside world, she changed. I was happy to see that she learnt to love, to trust and to have fun. I think most people will enjoy her first love, Caleb, because he's so wonderfully charming!
All her life, Eve has lived behind a wall with girls and ONLY girls. She has never seen a boy and has been taught that boys are the enemy, that they will do anything to get what they want. But she learnt to trust Caleb, this bare chest boy with green eyes. Well, it's hard not to when he saved her from a bear which was going to eat her for dinner.
This book is full of action and sweet romance. The only bad point I can pick out is:
CLIFFHANGER! :O I HATE CLIFFHANGERS. WHY? OH, WHY?!
Rating
This book has been hovering on the edge of my radar for a while, but I've recently become more interested in the dystopian genre. Your review makes it sound like it might be right up my street right now! I like the joke about sweaty balls! XD
ReplyDeleteEve didn't do much for me... I think it was all over the place and that the ending didn't suffice with all the questions that I have, it left me disappointed that I think I might flounce on reading the next book. But lets just hope the next book is better. Great review!
ReplyDeleteThe closest parallel I can draw for the heroine would be to Delirium. But Lena has a resourcefulness that makes up for her ignorance in most cases; Eve does not. In fact the comparisons to Twilight were pretty dead on. She's pretty pathetic at the beginning, whiny and unable to fend for herself, relying on others for pretty much everything - protection, food, directions, etc. She does grow throughout the story though, and by the end I liked her more. The reasons for the government to be after Eve were thin at best. There is one scene where they are on horseback and a bear chases them for what, in the book, feels like miles because Eve messed with its baby. That was completely unbelievable.
ReplyDeletei'm currently reading this one, and i love it:)
ReplyDeleteOk you have me sold. That quote alone with Caleb makes me want to read it. It sounds so cute and funny.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good read, I was unsure about it but I'll give it a try. :) Great review.
ReplyDeleteI was on the fence about this book. I think I'll give it a shot now!

i really love this book..but eve annoys me sometimes...great review:)
ReplyDeleteI think this story sounds really interesting but I have heard mixed reviews, so it is nice to hear your good review!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a very unique dystopian - especially because the main character isn't strong to begin with.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your awesome review!
I have been on the fence about this book. Have been hearing mixed reviews. But you seem to like it and have given it 4 stars, I definitely should check this out! Thanks for the great review!
ReplyDeleteI love books that show a lot of realistic character growth. I think i can deal with a cliffhanger ending, though maybe I'll wait to read it until March so that the sequel will be out by the time I finish ;)
ReplyDeletecurently reading eve...so far so good...
ReplyDeletethx 4 the review ...:)
Cliffhanger! That is the only reason that I have not read this one yet. I plan to as soon as all of the books are out and about so that I can read them back to back. Save me from some cliffhanger anxiety! I think it sounds so good, and I love that the MC grows as a person throughout the book. That always makes me happy!
