My review of Lies Beneath

Lies Beneath (Lies Beneath #1) by Anne Greenwood Brown
Release Date: June 12th, 2012
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon | The Book Depository

A magical and thrilling tale of mermaids with a deadly twist.

Lies Beneath
Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistable good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.

Lies Beneath is an intriguing book that you won't forget. Anne Greenwood Brown has created a fascinating worlds full of exciting paranormal creatures!

Lies Beneath is told from a boy's point of view, which I really liked. Normally, paranormal romance books are told from a girl's point of view. And it all avolves around this girl finding out that a handsome guy is a vampire or werewolf of some sort. So, to have a book told from a guy's POV was a very interesting experience!

This book was a breath of fresh air!

Finally, I thought, I will be able to see into the mythical being's head! But this book wasn't at all what I expected! The beautiful, pretty, innocent mermaids I had pictured in my head before I read the book, was replaced with killer mermaids? But once you got to know more about Calder, you realize that he is different from the others, he has a heart.

You will fall in love with the characters for their actions, their thoughts, their personality, etc. I really liked Calder, I think I will find it hard to find another Merman to compete with him. Lily, hmmmm, she's strong willed and quite surprising at times. Okay, so I won't say any more about that.....

Overall, a beautifully written book, full of charming and fun characters! Mermaids; The new Vampires?
