My review of Bloodlines

07/01/2012 - Bloodlines by Richelle Mead - Released 23rd August 2011
BEWARE: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS MAJOR SWOONING AND FAN GIRL REACTIONS.

A new take on vampires. Action packed and thrilling. One of my favourites!

Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1)
When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.

I do strongly recommend you read The Vampire Academy series before reading this because it'll give you a bit more ideas on the characters. Sadly, I didn't do that. I read this book first and THEN decided to read the Vampire Academy series. Don't make that mistake! :O

Anyway, I found this book EXTREMELY entertaining. It was fun, innocent and highly addictive. You might not understand the story at first but once you get into it, it really gets you hooked.

1) Characters
You will become attached to the main character, Sydney. She is a kind and caring person but can be tough when she wants to. From what I've read, she seems like a pretty girl. I wasn't sure if she was developing a crush on Adrian, but I definitely hope so! I'm in love. Swwwwwwoooooooon. Eeeek, he's so funny, cute, charming, fun, kissably lovely. He brang humour to the book for me. What would this book have been like without him? I don't even want to think about it. Moving on to Jill, she wasn't particularly interesting for me. To me, she was just there to complicate things.....I'm so glad that she wasn't the one narrating the story! PHEW. Lucky escape there.

2) The Plot
Well, this book wasn't what I expected but I did really enjoy it! Tatoos. Baddies. Nevermore. Blood. Vampire hunters. Wow, it was unexpected. I was happy to see that action was left until the last minute and the fact that you could FINALLY see the start of something beautiful at the end.

It took several seconds of silence for me to realize that I'd been staring at him while my mind spun out it's thoughts. And, actually, he was staring at me, with a look of wonder.
"My god, Sage. Your eyes. How have I never noticed them?"
That uncomfortable feeling was spreading over me again. "What about them?"
"The colour," he breathed. "When you stand in the light. They're amazing...like molten gold. I could pain those..." He reached toward me but then pulled back. "They're beautiful. You're beautiful."

MAJOR swooning here. I was pratically having a heart attack, guys! Everything was going brilliantly....

And then there was a knock at the door......

Grrr. If ONLY NO ONE KNOCKED ON THE FREAKING DOOR! NOW I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL JULY TO GET MY KISSING SCENE.

Luckily, to fill in the 6 month gap, I have found my Adrian!

But I wouldn't mind it being......

Anyway, back to the book. READ IT! It's amazing. I can't explain it until you read it! :D

Favourite Conversation!!!:
“Thanks for looking out for her, Sage. You're okay. For a human."
I almost laughed. "Thanks."
"You can say it too, you know."
I walked over to Latte and paused. "Say what?"
"That I'm okay...for a vampire," he explained.
I shook my head, still smiling. "You'll have a hard time getting any Alchemist to admit that. But I can say you're okay for an irreverent party boy with occasional moments of brilliance."
"Brilliant? You think I'm brilliant?" He threw his hands skyward. "You hear that, world? Sage says I'm brilliant.”

I rate this book:

  4. I love this book. I read Vampire Academy previously, and I wasn't ready for the series to end. So I was happy when Richelle continue to write in this world! Sydney is such a different narrator from Rose, but it's good to change POVs. She's human so it's nice to see her perspective of the vampire world. I like Adrian in this book. I didn't like him in Vampire Academy b/c I'm Team Dimitri! I can't wait for The Golden Lily!

  11. I literally just finished this book last night. While I didn't feel it was as strong as VA, I still enjoyed it. I enjoy Sydney, but I just don't feel like she is as strong of a leading character as Rose. Plus, of the two big exciting plotlines in this book, I had predicted one of them and I never did that with VA. SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! However, I am excited to get some Russian Cowboy in the Golden Lily ;)
