My review of Star Cursed

Star Cursed (The Cahill Chronicles #2) by Jessica Spotswood
Release Date: February 2, 2014
Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon | The Book Depository

Born Wicked: Star CursedWith the Brotherhood persecuting witches like never before, a divided Sisterhood desperately needs Cate to come into her Prophesied powers. And after Cate's friend Sachi is arrested for using magic, a war-thirsty Sister offers to help her find answers—if Cate is willing to endanger everyone she loves.

Cate doesn't want to be a weapon, and she doesn't want to involve her friends and Finn in the Sisterhood's schemes. But when Maura and Tess join the Sisterhood, Maura makes it clear that she'll do whatever it takes to lead the witches to victory. Even if it means sacrifices. Even if it means overthrowing Cate. Even if it means all-out war.

Star Cursed is the enthralling sequel to Born Wicked and if you've missed the first book go and read it because these witch books are brilliant reads. The story is set during the ole' times where you would be tortured and killed if you were found to be a witch. So we have Cate and her two younger sisters who are indeed all witches and the only place where they could be safe is a bit too close to the Brotherhood that they could want. The Brotherhood are the people running the towns and everyone knows what happens when you go against them. Certain death.

I adore the setting of the books and the danger that comes along with being a witch and having to hide who you are. Tension is high at all times in the city, especially for Cate now that her sisters, Maura and Tess, have moved up to London with her. With everyone thinking that Cate is the prophesied witch who could save them all, Maura isn't happy. I must admit that I quickly came to dislike Maura and childish attitude and failing to see the bigger picture. Oh, and how could I forget? She is a selfish BRAT! If you're looking for a character to throw all your anger at feel free to target Maura.

How could I resist Cate and Finn's romance? They are so adorable and if you don't read about them and feel 250 billion particles of feels then I can't say much to you. The forbidden romance is one of the elements that really stand out for me, but it is mainly the setting and Cate's bravery and utter awesomeness as a witch.

All I can say that the ending left me in tears and I need to get my hands on Sister's Fate because I want answers and I want a happy ending for all of my girls! If you want a story that is rich in characters and plot then check out these witch books because they have really captured my heart.

  3. I have not yet started this series, but it is one that I am anticipating getting into. I love witchy stories, and I have heard almost nothing but great things about the series and the characters and the witchery. I seriously hope that I fall into the love category with so many others, including you!
