My review of Frostbite

04/02/12 - Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Mead - Released 28th April 2008

The 2nd book in the Vampire Academy series. Another great book from Richelle Mead.

Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2)
Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose…

It's winter break at St. Vladimir's, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy's crawling with Guardians—including Rose's hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn't bad enough, Rose's tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason's got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price…

In this book, Rose Hathaway is torn between Dimitri, her instructor, and Mason, her best friend who wants to be a whole lot more. She suffers pain, love and loss. I really feel that she grows a bit in this book; that the ending will nudge her to make the right decisions in life.

Frostbite was an amazing read. Richelle seems to be able to deliver anything! Action! Romance! Mysteries! Kick-ass characters! In this book we meet.....*Drumroll*......ADRIAN! All of you who have read Bloodlines know that he is absolute gorgeous! I love him! He meets Rose on a ski trip and they seem to instantly get on, well apart from Rose being in a bad mood. But I am so happy that he finally pops up.

Mason, oh Mason. He loves Rose so much, if he knew what was happening with her and Dimitri....I dread to think what would've happened. At points in this book I wished that Rose would just go and die! Mason has done everything in his power for her and it was like having it all blown back up in his face. Rose needs to sort herself out! You can't have both boys. Well, three....if you count Adrian. But he's mine. Back off! ;)

The ending. Wow. It definitely isn't what you'd expect! You never realise how much you like a character until they're not there any more. Sigh, eventhough it was heart-breaking, I felt that it was appropriate.

Richelle is great at making a story something you wouldn't expect! I can't wait to read the rest of her series.

I rate this book:

5 Falling Books!

  1. This book has been translated to my language. I hope I can read this book in the end of this month. I am curious about Mason that you mentioned above.

  2. I really need to read this book...for some reason I read the first book (before this was out), really enjoyed it but then still haven't read this one. I should remedy that some day!

  4. This book was amazing but I already said that for every other book from the series so no surprise there! It was crucial part of Rose's development as a guardian. It was her first real battle! I loved reading it, with the new characters and the great moments and then the sad one's. I loved it and it totally deserved 5 stars/falling books(even though it my mind all the books from the series have at least 6 stars rating). Great review!
