A cute and fun story that you will leave you smiling.
Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn't seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she's coming to terms with her father's death and how to put her own life back together after the accident.
Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road--diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself.
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour is an extremely exciting and fun read. Morgan Matson has created the most interesting detour of all time! This story contains blossoming romance that will have you smiling.
Amy is trying to get over her father's death. He played a big part in her life. And now he's gone. Amy's mum moves to Connecticut and tells Amy that she must join her a month later. Amy has the car journey all planned out; where to stop, where to eat, where to sleep, etc. But Amy isn't going alone. Her mother's best friend's son is going with her. Amy never expected Roger to be so good looking. But he's hiding something, and Amy will ask as many questions as she can to find out what.
I really enjoyed the plot line of the story. Who wouldn't want to take a detour with a handsome guy, right? I can tell you now that this book has some pretty funny scenes! And definitely cringe-worthy. I think the characters in this book were a really great bunch. They all had interesting personalities that I wanted to read more about.
I think the cover is really adorable! That was what catched my eye in the first place. I did expect the main characters to hit it off as soon as they met, but I guess Morgan saved the best for the end!
Overall, Amy & Roger's Epic Detour is a really unique and captivating book that I would recommend to anyone who's wondering what to read next. Check out Morgan Matson's new book, Second Chance Summer, in May!
