It's a pleasure to have you on the blog. :D

Where did the idea for The Dark Light come from?

The idea for The Dark Light came to me during a road trip across the American plains when we were discussing a news event about a young boy who’d mysteriously reappeared almost a decade after vanishing. We were in the middle of nowhere, and the story got me thinking about all the places where a person could disappear, especially surrounded by all that open space. What might really be out there? That’s when I came up with the idea for The Dark Light.

Is the book as hot as the cover?

The Dark Light is definitely more romantic than steamy, but then the story is more fantasy than paranormal romance. The cover is incredibly hot, but to me, the image speaks about the characters--Mia’s strength, Sol’s reserve, and the connection between them. When there’s a tattoo like Sol’s in the story, there was no way we couldn’t show it! And you’ll definitely get to see the tattoo in all its glory in the book.

Will there be a sequel/companion novel any time in the future?

There are no plans for a sequel or companion story as of yet. The Dark Light does standalone, but I could write more, and I definitely know what would happen next. It’s early days.

How did you feel when you were told The Dark Light would be published?

I was ecstatic! I’d been writing for a long time, so to finally hear the news that a story of mine would eventually hit the shelves was a dream come true. My husband was away with work when I heard the news, so it was just me and my Saint Bernard, Rosie, dancing around the living room.

Are you working on any other projects?

I’m always writing, so I usually have a couple of projects on the go. I have a creepy supernatural stalker story that I wrote last year and really love. It’s a slightly different vibe to The Dark Light, much more inward and dark. I also have huge piles of notes for a sci-fi that I’m itching to write. It’s a story on a much bigger scale than the supernatural one, so more like The Dark Light. Epic sci-fi, I guess.

What is your favourite YA book?

That’s really tough, because I read so much and so widely. I adore Harry Potter, and I definitely class the later stories as YA, so I have to choose Potter. I also loved Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

Tell readers something they might not know about you.

I once received a letter from Princess Diana, which I think puts me 8,435,654^th in line for the British throne! Watch this space.

My review
Stitch is a mixture of paranormal romance and dystopian sci-fi. Get ready for an incredible adventure that will blow your mind with every twist and turn. 

Alessa is coping with the sudden death of her parents when she starts college. Things start to liven up when she begins seeing a handsome ghost appear in random rooms around the house she's staying in. Alessa is determined to find out who the boy is and why he's suddenly the only thing she can focus on. But her research is put on hold when she discovers a secret and will change both her, and her life, forever.

Wow. Samantha Durante knows how to shock readers, that's for sure! Stitch starts off ordinary and you don't understand how the book could be classes and a dystopian or sci-fi. Until...BOOM! Half-way through the book a big secret is unleashed and everything changes dramatically.

Stitch is unpredictable. I think that's the only word I can use to sum it up. Even though it starts off slow, it does pick up the pace and your finally hit with that wave of excitement. 

Action, mystery and romance. Check out Stitch for an epic adventure that will leave you wide-eyed and ready for more. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes dystopian and sci-fi mashed together with romance sprinkled lightly over the top.

My review of Spellbound

Life hasn't been fair on Emma Connor. She's lost her mother and the most amazing brother a girl could have. But now it's time to start her new life in New York with her aunt who seems to have enough money to send both her and her cousin to a posh private school where there are plenty of people who are out to get her. Except for one boy who seems to make school a lot more bearable; Brendan is hot and apparently the richest kid in school. But ever since Emma met him, strange things have been happening and she's been having alarming dreams of past lives. Dreams that warn her to stay away from Brendan.

I thought Spellbound was really interesting! The story flowed nicely with humor sprinkled here and there to keep readers entertained. I think one problem I had was the fact that I didn't feel it was very realistic. A one thousand year-old curse put on a couple who are destined to end up sad, lonely and one dead. Really? Am I expected to believe this? But, the author does back up the story with small tales and events that will slowly bring the story to life.

I also had a slight problem with the insta-love. Emma walks into class and apparently Brenden is spellbound and can't stay away from her. He's hot and then he's cold. His change in personality each day irritated me to the point where I really just wanted to kill him. I must admit that their relationship did make me laugh and it was kind of cute.

One thing I loved about this book was the few chapters before the end. There was action and it was written so well!! I had goosebumps and couldn't put it down. Shultz does know how to write a gripping scene and I'm looking forward to more of them in the sequel, Spellcaster.

I would definitely recommend this book to those who like a good witch book with aspects of romance and action. I am going to be reading the sequel because I am interested in seeing what Shultz has got planned for us next.

You might be familiar with Jennifer's other novel, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, which is also another YA contemporary. I WANT TO READ THIS BOOK SO BAD! Come on! Read the blurb!! It sounds EPIC. I loved TSPoLaFS and I am positive that Jennifer will not disappoint with this book. Damn, I can't believe it's coming out in April.

Alice in Zombieland is the first book in the much-anticipated White Rabbit Chronicles. But, this isn't an ordinary retelling of Alice in Wonderland. No. Gena Showalter has put her own spin on the popular classic and has created an action-packed and romantic story that you won't want to put down.

When I was first saw Alice in Zombieland, I was expecting Alice to fall down a hole while chasing a white rabbit and then end up in a land full of zombies. But, no. That didn't happen. Alice in Zombieland is not a exactly a retelling of Alice in Wonderland. More like the author includes main aspects of the classic in her story and puts an unpredictable twist on them to shock readers.

While Alice might not fall down a hole into a magical land of zombies and white rabbits like you might be expecting, she does have to cope with a lot in the human world alone. Her family are, thanks to a bunch of monsters, and the only relatives she has left are her grandparents. She wishes she has believed her father when he warned her about the monster, because now they're out to get her. Ali is ready to fight and avenge her family, with the help from the hot and dangerous, Cole Holland. But nothings ever easy in a world full of surprises.

After reading Showalter's Intertwined series, I immediately fell in love with her writing style. When I found out about this book I was ecstatic! Showalter writes a lot of adult novels and I was waiting for the time when she would write another YA series, and now here it is. A beautiful cover, an interesting plot and hot characters.

Cole Holland. *Sigh* Gena really knows how to make a guy irresistible; dark, brooding, violet eyes...yep, some good stuff. Cole is a bad boy. He comes across as dangerous and protective, but we do get to dive into his more vulnerable side when he opens up to Alice. As for our main character, Alice is a great character who shows determination and strength in everything she does. 

I must warn you. If you pick this book up and think, "Hmmm, I want a scary book set in a land full of zombies," then be prepared for the disappointment. On the other hand, if you pick up this book and think, "I want a unique spin on zombies set in an american high school with lots of romance," then this book is for you! 

Gena Showalter, you've done it again. You have left me in complete awe and ready to read more. I'm sure the sequel, Through the Zombie Glass, will live up to this one. Looking forward to....MORE COLE!

Despite the heat, Seth felt icy. Dread could do that to him. Or so he had recently discovered. Deep breathing usually calmed him, so he sucked in a lungful of desert air and told himself to relax. It didn’t help. By the time he’d walked from the aircraft to the immigration hall he’d ripped off a jagged piece of thumbnail, already bitten raw. He handed his US passport to the Botswanan border official, and, after a frown, and a stamp, he joined the crowd at the baggage carousel. Botswana in southern Africa was the last place on earth he’d ever have picked for a holiday destination. But he wasn’t here on holiday. Not even close.

His backpack was slow in coming. Tired from his long-haul flight from New York, he leaned against the wall and closed his eyes. Almost as if to mock him, the hated vision that had brought him to Botswana burst into his mind. In an instant he was back in ancient times, watching a man he knew only as Gideon. As usual, Gideon was huddled on a windswept hill with his band of hopeless soldiers, waiting to be slaughtered by a huge army gathered in the valley below.

Seth snapped his eyes open to stop the battle from waging in his mind. It wasn’t that he was particularly squeamish; he’d watched enough movies to iron clad his stomach against gory visuals. But no movie had ever left him icy with dread the way Gideon’s battle did. And the reason for that was simple. The moment the visions had started, he had known that the war, fought so long ago in a place he’d never heard of, was far from over. And, as reluctant as he was, he too was being enlisted to fight in a cause he didn’t understand or want.

He forced himself to focus on the present: Erin, who waited for him in the arrivals hall; his brother Kyle, whom he’d come to Botswana to visit; Kyle’s expedition to find the Lost City of the Kalahari . . .

He ripped off another piece of fingernail. Thinking about the search for the Lost City was almost as bad as the war-vision. I hope Kyle never finds the damned place. He slapped his hand on his thigh. Then she’d described herself as “a short, seventeen-year-old (a year younger than him) with a mass of ginger hair.” She’d sounded nice. Meeting her was the one ray of brightness in this otherwise dark picture.

He stopped to scan the crowd. A petite girl with shoulder length, reddish-blonde curls, dressed in skinny jeans and a purple blouse, immediately caught his eye. It had to be Erin. Nice legs. What’s it with girls that they always under-sell themselves? He studied her face with his artist’s eye. Vermeer would’ve killed to paint her. Suddenly wishing he didn’t look so grimy after his three plane-changes, he walked over to join her. “Hi, I’m Seth. You’ve got to be Erin. My brother’s just married your sister Izzy.”

“And after only knowing each other for about a week.”

Her dimpled grin was infectious, making him crack his trademark crooked smile. “Madness.”

“Mysterious.” Erin cocked her head to one side, seemingly appraising him. He knew he had been accurate when he’d told her he was tall and dark-haired. But what he had failed to mention was what girls had often said they liked about him: his strong, angular face, softened by expressive brown eyes. He watched her eyes rove over his grey Muse: Resistance t-shirt, taking in his broad shoulders and chest. From there they darted down his black camo-pants to his boots. Amused by her blatant assessment, he cocked his head to one side, watching her. Suddenly Erin giggled – was she embarrassed? – and picked up her bag.

“We’ve yet another plane to catch. My fourth in the last twenty-four hours,” Seth said, hoping to explain away his rumpled appearance. “To a place called Maun.”

“So we do. Let the adventure begin.”

Hi Sam, thank you for inviting me onto your blog today. I really appreciate it.

Where did the idea for Pledged come from?

It all started about ten years ago when three characters – Sophia, Jared and Caleb - arrived in my head. Of course, like any sane person confronted with squatters, I tried to evict them, but instead I came under their spell, falling deeply in love with them. In the end, I allowed them to take up permanent residence. Over the years they told me their story about curses and promises, love and betrayal set in a lost land called Shenaya. This ancient land was torn apart by warring demons and angels. Sophia, Jared and Caleb were so insistent they finally won me over to write their tale. That was the start of the Soul Wars Saga of which Pledged is the first book.

Who is your favourite character from the book?

Jared. I’m in love with him. In my mind, he’s the perfect blend of a bad-good guy. Warlord of Shenaya, he’s not your classic good-looker, but he’s got a strong, commanding face, which pretty much tells the world what he’s about. When you first meet him, you’ll find him sardonic and egotistical. But if you win his heart, he will be loyal to you unto death.

Will Pledged be available in paperback?

Pledged is currently available in paperback on Amazon. I’m hoping that if enough of you ask your local bookstores for it, we’ll be able stock it in the traditional bricks-and-mortar stores too.

Are working on any other projects?

Pledged is the first book in the Soul Wars Saga trilogy. The next in the series, Sacrificed, will be released in January 2013. And the final book is due out in June 2013.

Only ten words? Hmm . . . I think I can manage that: So many twists, you’ll get friction burns from page-turning.
