Hartley Grace Featherstone is having a very bad day. First she finds out that her boyfriend is cheating on her with the president of the Herbert Hoover High School Chastity Club. Then he’s pegged as the #1 suspect in a murder. And if that weren’t enough, now he’s depending on Hartley to clear his name.
But as much as Hartley wouldn’t mind seeing him squirm, she knows he’s innocent, and she’s the only one who can help him. Along with her best friend, Sam, and the school’s resident Bad Boy, Chase, Hartley starts investigating on her own. But as the dead bodies begin to pile up, the mystery deepens, the suspects multiply, and Hartley begins to fear that she may be the killer’s next victim.
First off, the characters were extremely fun to read about. Our main character, Hartley, will take you on an exciting journey that you will not forget! I must say, Hartley is a very strong girl, she's just found out that her boyfriend has cheated on her and she didn't exactly find out in the nicest way. And when Hartley visits her boyfriend's house to find a girl dead in his closet, she doesn't know what to think. What should she do? Her (ex)boyfriend is being accused of murder but she knows that he didn't do it. Hartley meets bad boy, Chase, who might know who killed the girl in the closet....
I really liked all the characters, they all had their own unique and fun personalities that I just fell head over heals for. Chase, the boy who wears all black, the boy who just can't stay away from trouble, the boy Hartley grows ever close to. I loved all the flirting and the awkward conversations. Teenage relationships are complicated and definitely awkward and I just think that Gemma Halliday has done an amazing job at writing about it.
The plot and mysteries were just so gripping! The book will keep you guessing until the very end. The question that runs through your head through out the book is, "Who's the killer?", and I don't think you will be able to guess...unless you want to give yourself a head ache.
I can't wait to read more about Hartley and Chase and where their snooping skills will lead them to next. I recommend this to everyone who loves a good mystery with a side of humor.

ReplyDeleteThis book's gotten awesome reviews!
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about Hartley is that she's hurting because of what her boyfriend did, but she still knows it's the right thing to do to help him out. He doesn't pull her down, she rises up to be someone really strong!
I have to read this book ! It is everywhere. I love the idea and the girl in the trailer sounds like Sookie a little bit.
ReplyDeleteI see a Place in This Life in your sidebar. I just got that book via a Twitter reccomendation.
The book blurb didn't sound very interesting to me, but after I read you review I might check it out:)

ReplyDeletei love YA with mystery or maybe some murders...:p
thx dear :)
I know that I have previously commented, but now that I have read the book for myself so I didn't think that you would mind! I LOVED this book! Loved it! I laughed my butt off, out loud and made my hubby look at me weirdly, several times. And even though it is full of humor, there is still so much emotion, fear, suspense. Gemma Halliday did such a marvelous job of mixing all of these different elements that normally wouldn't fit, and making the amazing concoction that is Deadly Cool. And the characters are perfection! Loved every second. I can't wait to read Social Suicide!
ReplyDeleteI love Gemma Halliday's High Heels Mystery series, so I'll have to check this out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!
Best Wishes,
