We LIVED it. It was written as it happened. Possibly the writer could have embellished a bit more to make the story less gray and bland, but I suppose life was like that for the two main characters. It was an oppressive situation, and not meant to be upbeat or stimulating. More of a look into struggle, rather than triumph or some grand conclusion.
